IGNOU Re-Registration 2024 — How to Apply, Dates & Common Mistakes
What is IGNOU Re-Registration?
Re-registration is the process of enrolling for the next year or semester of your ongoing IGNOU programme. Unlike a regular college where you are automatically promoted, IGNOU requires you to re-register each year/semester to continue your studies.
Missing re-registration = missing out on assignments and exams for that session.
Re-Registration Dates 2024
| Session | Re-Registration Window |
|---|---|
| July 2024 (next academic year) | January 1 – April 30, 2024 |
| January 2025 | July 1 – October 31, 2024 |
Always verify the exact dates at onlinerr.ignou.ac.in as IGNOU may extend deadlines.
Step-by-Step Re-Registration Process
Step 1: Visit the Online Re-Registration Portal
Go to onlinerr.ignou.ac.in and login with your:
- Enrolment Number
- Registered Mobile Number / Email (OTP-based login)
Step 2: Select Your Courses
The portal will show you the courses available for your next year/semester. Select courses as per your programme's structure. If you are unsure which courses to select, refer to your programme guide (prospectus) or contact your study centre.
Step 3: Pay the Fee
Re-registration fees can be paid via:
- Credit/Debit Card
- Net Banking
- UPI (Google Pay, PhonePe, etc.)
Keep the payment receipt — you will need it if there is a dispute.
Step 4: Confirm and Download
After payment, download the re-registration confirmation slip. This is your proof of registration for that session.
What Happens If You Miss the Deadline?
IGNOU usually opens a late submission window with a penalty fee. If you miss that too, you will have to wait for the next session — delaying your graduation by 6 months to 1 year.
Common Re-Registration Mistakes to Avoid
- Selecting wrong course codes — Double-check against your programme guide.
- Using an expired payment method — Keep your cards updated.
- Not checking eligibility — Some programmes require you to clear Year 1 before registering for Year 2.
- Ignoring portal errors — If payment deducts but confirmation does not show, wait 24 hours or contact the IGNOU helpline at 011-29572513.
After Re-Registration
Once registered:
- Your new assignment question papers will be available in your Regional Centre or via IGNOU's student portal.
