The Best Study Strategy for IGNOU Term-End Exams (TEE) in 2024
Why IGNOU Exams Are Different
IGNOU is a distance education university, which means you are mostly self-studying. The Term-End Exam (TEE) can feel overwhelming without a classroom structure. But with the right strategy, you can score well — even if you start preparing just 60 days before the exam.
The 60-Day Study Plan
Days 1–20: Cover the Syllabus
Go through each block of your course material in order. Do not try to memorise — focus on understanding key concepts. For each block:
- Read the "Introduction" and "Summary" sections carefully.
- Highlight definitions and important terms.
- Write a one-page summary of each unit.
Goal: Finish at least 80% of the syllabus by day 20.
Days 21–40: Practice with Previous Year Papers
IGNOU follows predictable question patterns. Most questions are repeated with minor variations. Collect at least 5 years of previous question papers for your course (available on our previous papers page).
For each paper:
- Identify the most repeated topics.
- Write model answers for those topics (400–600 words each).
- Time yourself — 3 hours, just like the real exam.
Days 41–55: Revision and Gap Filling
- Revisit units where you scored poorly in practice.
- Create flashcards for definitions and theorems.
- Revise your model answers.
Days 56–60: Final Sprint
- Read only summaries and headings.
- Revise your model answers one last time.
- Get 8 hours of sleep each night — your brain consolidates memory during sleep.
Exam Day Tips
- Read the question paper for 5 minutes before writing. Mark which questions you will attempt.
- Attempt compulsory questions first then move to optional ones.
- Write clear sub-headings in long answers.
- Leave 10 minutes at the end to review your paper.
Resources That Will Help You

The Bottom Line
Consistency beats cramming. Even 2 hours of focused study every day will get you through your IGNOU exams comfortably. Stick to the plan, use previous papers, and you will score marks that surprise even yourself.
